break a leg

Last Tuesday, while doing my usual treadmill run, I felt that slight pain in my left leg again. Like in the previous couple of weeks, I just ignored it. That's the thing about running -- you learn to defy the pain you feel, until you become stronger than the pain.

But this time, the pain in my leg didn't simply go away. Instead, the longer I was running on the treadmill, the more it hurt. Finally, much to my disappointment, I had to stop in the middle of it, and just alternate between walking and jogging. And so I wasn't able to finish my target distance within the target amount of time.

At this rate, I might not be able to do a 10-kilometer run by the end of this year. *sigh*

I realized that the pain isn't muscular in nature, but rather it has something to do with the bone in my lower left leg. I guess I'll have to topup my calcium intake. I really do hope I get well soon. Meanwhile, no intense running for me. :(

  1. [...] Run 10 kilometers in under 1 hour. Back in college, I ran 8 kilometers in 42 minutes. At the rate that I’m going, I’ll accomplish this by mid-November this year. [edit: this might not be feasible anymore. see here.] [...]

  2. When I hurt my leg (pulled a muscle) my doctor said to cross train either on the elliptical rider/trainer or a bike (as long as it didn't hurt). This way you won't loose any leg muscle strength.

Don't give up on your goal just yet. :) Good luck!
